International Student Immigration and Financial Documentation

Most international students who wish to study full time in the United States must be sponsored by the University of Oregon in order to apply for an F-1 student visa, or transfer F-1 status to the University of Oregon if studying at another US institution.

Evidence of Financial Resources

To be sponsored by the University of Oregon, you are required to submit financial documentation which is equal to or greater than the total estimated expense for the 2023–24 academic year (see chart below).

  • You can submit one or more documents including:
  • Personal or parents’ bank statements
  • Sponsor’s bank statement
  • Scholarship awards
  • Government funding
  • Educational loans

All financial documentation must represent liquid assets which are immediately available to pay for your studies at the UO.

Once we have all your financial documentation, we will email Form I-20, Certificate of Eligibility, along with important visa and pre-arrival information, to your admissions email within two weeks. You will use Form I-20 to apply for your F-1 student visa.

Scholarship Awards

If you are applying for UO scholarships, you can wait to submit your financial documentation until scholarship awards have been made. Most scholarships will be awarded by April. Once you know the results of the scholarship awards, you can submit your financial documentation to the Office of ¿´Æ¬¿ñÈË by the May 1 deadline to confirm your decision. This will still give you plenty of time to apply for your F-1 student visa.

Upload Financial Documentation

  1. Complete the International Student and Financial Verification Form and upload to your , along with any required financial documentation as specified on the form.
Exception for Other Visa Holders: If you are in the US in another nonimmigrant status, and do not need F-1 visa sponsorship, you do not have to submit evidence of financial resources for one year of study. However, we still need you to complete the first page of the International Student and Financial Verification Form and upload to your .
  2. Upload your passport to your .
