Campus Safety

For many University of Oregon students, campus is not only a place to go to class and study; it's the place they call home. The UO is dedicated to providing a safe, secure living and learning environment for all students.

The  (UOPD) patrols the university鈥檚 295-acre park-like campus and surrounding neighborhoods by foot, bike, and car. UOPD officers maintain an active presence on campus to deter crime, and to heighten personal safety and building security. When walking around campus in the evening, students are encouraged to walk with a friend or in a group.

Safety and Security Resources

  • The UO campus is well-lit at night, and emergency call boxes are strategically distributed throughout campus. Call boxes put the user in immediate connection with police dispatchers, and police will respond within minutes to an activated call box location. The shows the lit paths and emergency boxes.
  • The UO's provides alternatives to walking alone at night. Students of all gender identities can request a from UOPD. All the services are free to UO students.
  • The university uses the notification system to make students aware of emergencies and what action they can take. All students are encouraged to sign up; students can even .
  • The UO displays in classrooms and other spaces to direct students, faculty, staff, and visitors in how to respond to emergencies.

In compliance with federal law and the Jeanne Clery Act, the UO prepares an , with crime statistics for the previous three calendar years, including on campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the UO, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. Fire statistics for the previous three calendar years are also included, along with information about campus safety, prevention, education, and reporting resources.
